Barnet Council has developed outdoor gyms in 8 parks across the borough. Middlesex University has been appointed to manage a programme of free fitness instruction to park users.

Gym in the Park is the name of the free programme of fitness instruction available at the outdoor gyms in parks across Barnet.

Gym in the Park for Summer 2015, offers local residents two ways to safely access the fitness equipment:

One of the main aims is to improve the general health levels of people living in Barnet. With this aim in mind we are requesting all participants who come along to receive instruction, to complete a one off registration form, and to also ideally be available to respond to a follow up enquiry 3-4 months after they first register. The parks where the gyms are located are:

  2. Childs Hill Park - Child Hill (Map)

  3. Edgwarebury Park- Edgware (Map)

  4. Friary Park - Coppets (Map)

  5. Oak Hill Park - East Barnet (Map)

  6. Hendon Park - West Hendon (Map)

  7. Watling Park - Burnt Oak (Map)

  1. Mill Hill Park - Mill Hill (Map)

Installation of the gyms was completed in June 2014 and the launch of the scheme took place at Hendon Park at the end of June.

Making effective use of the equipment

The outdoor gyms comprise a range of resistance and cardio - respiratory machines, which are simple and accessible to use. However for people to get the most benefit from using the equipment, we are now offering free instruction and advice on how to undertake a beneficial training programme.

Personal 1 to 1 Induction sessions

This summer we are also offering you the opportunity for a free induction session – to guide you on how to make the most of the outdoor gym equipment, and to exercise safely.

We will also be offering the regular programmed sessions where a qualified instructor will be present to offer anyone who turns up guidance and supervision on use of the equipment and general good practice/ principles for effective training.
